DSMT launches 2017-18 fundraising campaign

The need for our scholarships has never been greater.  The pressures on families in East Jerusalem and the West Bank have not reduced in the twelve years DSMT has been operating.  This year’s new scholarship girls face many difficulties including workless households, acute financial pressures, domestic violence, family breakdown, bereavement, diagnosis of cancer, as well as the on-going constraints and tensions of the Occupation, now unresolved for 50 years.   Education truly is a lifeline for these girls.

DSMT wants to continue offering this lifeline to more girls in the future.  So far, every girl with a DSMT scholarship has successfully completed her school or HE course.  This summer saw two more girls join our group of HE graduates, including one with a young child who returned to university to complete her course.  Four more school scholarship girls have moved on to higher education, two of them assisted by DSMT HE awards.

We have committed to funding further scholarships from 2018 but would like to be able to do the same for 2019 and beyond.  Our target in 2018 is to raise enough to award at least two new scholarships in 2019, one for a school girl and one for an HE student.  Together this will cost around £16,000.
