The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on education in the OPTs
The situation has been similar to the UK’s. All schools and universities have been closed since March and still are at the time of writing.
The school leaving exams, the Tawjihi, did take place in May and the results were recently announced but we don’t yet have this information for DSMT school scholarship girls. DSMT HE students have been back at home since March and have had some online teaching. We have had contact with several of the girls but not yet all. So far all have completed and passed the year. There is no ‘honor grade’ system this year. Two of the final year students have successfully graduated, though without the usual ceremonies, and one of them, Architecture graduate Israa now has a job in an architect’s office in Jerusalem – a real achievement at this difficult time. We hope Dar Al Tifel School will open again in September and that we will be able to pay DSMT’s grants soon after that. Please watch this space for further updates.
