News – School in international spotlight

2011 saw the UK release of the film ‘Miral’, directed by Julian Schnabel and starring Hiam Abbass,  Freida Pinto, Omar Metwally, Willem Dafoe and Vanessa Redgrave.

Screenplay is by Rula Jebreal, a former pupil at the Dar El Tifl school and orphanage, and is based on her book that tells the story of her growing up after she is sent to the school in 1978, following the death of her mother.

The film also references the origins of the of the school, established by Ms Hind Husseini for orphaned children after the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel.  The current chairman of governors, Ms Mahira Dajani was Ms Husseini’s nominated successor.

Through your kind donations the DSMT have funded scholarships for more than 20 girls during the past 4 years.
