Fund-raising for 2020 scholarships

2018 Comments Off on Fund-raising for 2020 scholarships

Our 2017 -18 fund-raising campaign is still on-going.  The need for our scholarships has never been greater. The 2018 visit confirmed beyond doubt that the pressures on families in East Jerusalem and the West Bank have not reduced in the years since we began working in the region and in many ways have increased.  The political situation appears intractable and continues to affect every aspect of life. The families of our five new scholarship girls once again illustrate the difficulties faced by many eg workless households, acute financial pressures, long-term sickness, low paid and insecure employment often subject to arbitrary rule changes relating to freedom of movement for example.  Three of this year’s girls live in the Old City where the Arab quarter is shrinking and hence economic activity reduces. Understandably, DSMT wants to enable young women to acquire the skills to be in a position to make the most of what opportunities are available to them.

Funding is secure and committed for all new scholarships awarded in 2018 and we are pleased to announce, also for those to be awarded in 2019.  Our target now is to continue our scholarship programmes in some form from 2020.

DSMT would like to express our grateful to Kroll for thir continued support, to the Council of Arab Ambassadors for their recent generous donation, and to our loyal supporters who continue to donate on a regular basis.

To help us continue awarding scholarships in 2020 you can donate online via VirginMoneyGiving on this website or by cheque, payable to Dominic Simpson Memorial Trust Limited, posted to Lesley Shareif, DSMT Administrator, Flat 3, 4 Bolebrooke Road, Bexhill-on-Sea, TN40 1EN.  For bank transfer payments, please contact Lesley (admin@dominicsimpsontrust.org.uk).
